Hair Transplant Recovery: A Realistic Timeline

The First Few Days

In the first one to three days after your procedure, rest and minimal activity are important. The treated areas may feel tender, and some swelling is normal. Gentle care β€” without touching or scratching the transplanted area β€” helps protect the newly placed grafts.

Weeks One to Three

  • Swelling gradually subsides and a washing routine begins
  • Scabbing forms naturally and starts to shed
  • Redness continues to fade over the following days

Important Note

Scabbing and redness are a normal part of healing, not a sign of a problem. Avoid picking at scabs β€” they shed naturally as the area heals.

The Shedding Phase

Between weeks two and six, the transplanted hairs typically shed. This can feel concerning, but it is completely expected. The follicles remain in place beneath the scalp and enter a resting phase before new growth begins.

Growth and Final Results

New growth usually starts around months three to four. By months six to nine, patients generally notice visible improvement in density and coverage. Final results are typically visible between twelve and fifteen months. Recovery timelines vary between individuals.
